(GAB) – Guam Amateur Baseball is back for the 2012 Fall Leo Palace Baseball League. GAB recently finished up the 2012 Spring League with 12 teams that played more than 80 games including an All-Star game and homerun derby at Okkodo High School.

The 2012 Spring League champion was the Chalan Pago Amigos who outlasted the Agana Heights King Car Chiefs in an exciting best-of-three championship series.

The 2012 Fall League will be played at Leo Palace Resort Stadium, with more than 100 games including the All-Star game and homerun derby. Games start on Aug. 25 and will continue through the end of November.

2 divisions

Comprised of two divisions, the AAA division will have seven teams and allows 10 BBL players per team while the Amateur division consists of 10 teams with teams made up entirely of non-BBL players.

The Fall League will also have the annual All-Star game and homerun derby. The goal is for the Fall League to provide additional competitive playing time for Guam's experienced baseball community as well as continued development for the young, up-and-coming players on-island.

Camps & clinics

GAB will also be hosting camps and clinics for youth teams to attend as the 2012 Leo Palace Baseball League continues through the end of the year. With dedicated sponsors such as Miller Lite, IT&E, Strike Zone and Leo Palace Resort, the league is also looking for more sports and community-minded businesses to help make the 2012 Leo Palace Baseball League a great time for teams and fans.

The season kicks off this Saturday at 3 p.m. with the first game featuring AAA division teams Philip & Son's Phillies vs. AM Insurance Angels. The 6 p.m. game will match up Amateur division teams Asan Guns against the Piti Pirates.

The Leo Palace Resort baseball stadium offers a beautiful venue for Guam's favorite pastime, including an indoor/air-conditioned area, $1 beers, and food and drink to enjoy while watching the game. Admission is free.

Games will be played Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
