Quality claims IT&E Men's Futsal championship
THE IT&E Men’s Futsal League wrapped up last Sunday at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon, with Quality Distributors claiming the championship over the Orange Crushers, 6-3. Quality’s Scott Spindel got things rolling for Quality with a quick shot off a corner kick, putting his team up 1-0.
Both teams settled down a bit as neither team was able to capitalize on scoring chances, up until the 11th minute of play when the Orange Crushers’ Marco Napoli knotted things up at 1-1, getting the ball past Quality goalkeeper Dave Bush.
The contest didn’t remain tied for long as Quality’s James Bush struck the back of the net on a free kick, putting Quality back on top by a score of 2-1. With less than 60 ticks of the clock gone by, the Crushers’ Stanley Rice found himself in perfect goal-scoring position, which he took advantage of, tying things up 2-2.
With time winding down in the first half, Scott Spindel’s older brother Shawn also got in on the action, scoring his first goal of the game, elevating Quality to a 3-2 lead.
The second half began much like the start of the game, with Quality’s Spindel following up on a blocked shot and kicking it past Crushers goalkeeper Josh Bordallo.
Fifteen minutes later into the second half and leading 4-2, Quality’s Ryan Gordon got in on the scoring action, adding another insurance goal for his team and knocking the ball past Bordallo for a 5-2 lead.
With time winding down and less than two minutes to go in the championship game, the Crushers were able to chip one point off the lead, 5-3, with a goal by Jaime Ortega. Not to be outdone, and perhaps desiring to close off the championship with an exclamation point, Quality’s Joseph Cruz, with six seconds left in the game, knocked in the game’s final goal, sealing the Crushers’ coffin with one final nail (6-3).
