(GFCA) – The Fishing Community of Guam proudly presents the Peskadot August 2012 events hosted by the Guam Fishermen's Cooperative Association (GFCA) located at the Gregorio D. Perez Marina in Hagåtña.
Come join the fishing community as we celebrate the fishing culture and traditions of the island.
The Guam Fishermen’s Cooperative Association, aka the Co-Op, is a nonprofit community organization at the forefront of marine conservation and sustainable use of Guam’s natural resources.
Chamorro cultural values and sound management guide its operation and programs. Funds raised through the operations and special events support the perpetuation of the Chamorro culture, local scientific research and capacity building scholarships, education, health and other local charitable causes.
The Guam Organization of Saltwater Anglers will hold its 3rd Annual In-shore Tournament Mandatory Registration and Rules Meeting from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8. Competition will run Friday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m.
The Marianas Underwater Fishing Federation 8th Annual Marianas Spearfishing Challenge Mandatory Registration and Rules Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9. Competition will run from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11.
The Guam Fishermen’s Cooperative Association 14th Annual Gupot Y Peskadot (Fisherman’s Festival) will be held Sunday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be cultural and environmental demonstrations, entertainment and exhibits, and food tasting.
In addition, the GFCA 17th Annual Guam Marianas International Fishing Derby Agat and Hagåtña Marinas will be held Sunday, Aug. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.
