HOOPS action at the Tamuning Gym was just as hot as any other night as play in the 2012 Summer Jam Basketball League 10-under division resumed.

In the second game of the night, the Tamuning Typhoons were looking to pick up their first win and remove the “goose egg” from the win column.

However, the Sixers Club had other intentions in mind and after 30 minutes of play defeated the Typhoons, 14-6. With the victory, the Sixers finish the round robin play with a 3-3 record. The Typhoons will head into the playoffs as the 4th-seeded team after finishing with a 0-6 record.

The Sixers came storming out of the gates immediately and built a 6-0 lead after the trio of Ross Salas, Xavyion Thomas and Dwight Cruz nailed their first shots. Midway through the opening half, the Typhoons’ Nathaniel Peroy finally ended their scoreless drought after sinking a short jumper. Moments later, Tamuning trimmed their deficit down by two more after Raymar Calderon converted a layup.

Before the break, the Sixers increased their lead back to six after scoring three straight baskets in the final two minutes. Salas and teammate Franki-Ann Baza started the six-point surge when both players turned offensive rebounds into points. With 30 seconds left on the clock, Aiden Gumataotao dribbled to the baseline and put up a shot that swished through to give the Sixers a 12-4 lead.

Second-half action came to a stalemate in the first six minutes of play, as neither team was able to find any offensive rhythm. Tamuning’s Matthew Santos was the first player in the half to make a basket and did so with eight minutes left in the game.

As the running clock continued to wind down, the Sixers were able to put their only basket of the game through a put-back by Thomas.

When the clock read zeroes, the Sixers walked out victorious and will enter the playoffs as the 3rd seed. The Typhoons will start the post-season seeded 4th.
