WHILE promoting and perpetuating our island’s culture remains atop many of their group’s priorities, the Inetnon Gef Pago’ Cultural Dance Group has taken things a notch further to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The local group from down south has come together to host an inaugural 5K Fun Run/Walk to be held later this weekend.
"We are very excited about our first annual 5K Run/Walk. Inetnon Gef Pago’ is committed to instilling pride and awareness of our Chamorro identity through performing arts. We also want to contribute opportunities for our people to live a healthier lifestyle,” group instructor Vince Reyes said. “What better way to combine and support health and fitness culture than through a 5K. Aside from promoting a healthier lifestyle, our intention is to also raise funds for much-needed expenses for our program."
The early morning event will take place on Sunday and the 3.1-mile race will start and end at Chamorro Village in Hagåtña. According to race organizers, show time for the race is 5:15 a.m. and go time is scheduled for 6 a.m. Registration is currently being accepted at Hornet Sporting Goods and is $7 for early registrants and $10 on race day.
An awards presentation and raffle drawing will take place immediately after the race. The first 300 finishers will be given T-shirts and refreshments will be made available for all participants. For more information on the race, contact Bert Duenas at 688-4744 or Kristine Lujan at 688-5845.
