LAST weekend, three different tennis courts were busy with action in the ASC Trust Family Classic Tennis Tournament. The three-day tournament was held at the Sheraton Laguna Resort and Spa, Rick Ninete Tennis Center, and Hilton Guam Resort and Spa tennis courts. At the conclusion of the opening weekend, several doubles teams were crowned champions.
In the Men’s Open Division, the duo of Daniel Llarenas and Richard Hawes worked their way to clinching the title. Llarenas and Hawes found no difficulties cruising to a championship as they were able to defeat the team of Torgun Smith and Kenta Tanimoto 6-1, 6-2. Before the champs reached the finals, they defeated Preston Antonini and Swami in the semifinals in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
The men weren’t the only ones getting their tennis action on throughout the weekend. In the Women’s 2.0 Division, newcomers Rinko Kita and Millie Leon Guerrero battled past several teams to clinch their championship.
Kita and Leon Guerrero started their quarterfinals round picking up a straight-set (6-1, 6-3) victory over Paulino Aguon and Camy Aquininoc. The eventual champions had their toughest match in the semis as they took on the pair of Noiko Choo and Masami Ehrenreich. Both teams gave nothing but their best against one another.
At the end of the match, it was Kita and Leon Guerrero who beat the favorites 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. In the final round, the Kita/Leon Guerrero team beat Ira Triz Cubi/Angel Ulloa 6-3, 7-5.
