ACTION around the diamond at the Paseo Stadium was well underway early Saturday morning as action in the Guam Masters Baseball League resumed play.
Near-perfect weather conditions allowed for five scheduled games to be played. In the opening matchup of the day, the Asan Rai and Agat Kleene Guard Cardinals provided much excitement for their fans in attendance. Despite trailing by five runs early in the match, the Rai battled back to clinch a 13-12 victory over the Cardinals.
Asan sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth inning and scored seven runs off Kleene Guard pitcher Vince Villasoto, and two more off George Pecina.
The Cardinals responded in the bottom-half of the inning by scoring three runs. However, heads-up play was made by Asan’s Bruce Fejeran, who scooped up a two-out grounder by Pecina with the bases loaded to get the force out at second for the third out as time expired.
Asan’s Herbert Siliang took the win while Kleene Guard’s George Pecina suffered the loss. Asan’s John Leon Guerrero went 2-for-3, with a double, four RBI, and a run scored. Kleene Guard’s Leon Mallada was 2-for-4, two RBI, and two runs scored.
