THE Guam Football Association soccer pitch will be busy this Sunday evening as two teams will battle one another in hopes of capturing the Beck’s 5th Annual GFA Cup.
At the end of the night, a champion will be declared as Quality Distributors and Guam Shipyard will lay it all out on the line for all the marbles. The highly anticipated matchup is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. and will include reserved seating on the second floor lanai for VIPs, including the GFA Executive Committee and proud supporters from the tournament’s sponsor, Ambros Inc.
For Quality Distributors, making the finals is nothing new to them as this will be their fifth straight trip after having won four championships.
According to a press release, the only other team to capture a GFA Cup was Guam Shipyard, which clinched the title back in 2010 when they defeated Quality Distributors, 4-3.
It was on April 29 when both teams earned their right to the finals. Quality was able to pull away with a 6-0 shutout victory over Cars Plus FC.
On the same day, Guam Shipyard earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Fuji Ichiban Espada FC to set up the matchup.
Before the championship match, Cars Plus FC and Fuji Ichiban will play one another in the consolation match scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Immediately after the final match, an awards ceremony and fiesta-style banquet will be held to officially conclude the GFA Cup Tournament.
