IT DIDN’T matter what time people arrived at the George Washington field last Saturday, as all were guaranteed a chance to witness some intense, quick and hard-hitting action in the IIAAG/GRFU High School Rugby League.

Throughout the day, a multiple of matches were played in both flag and tackle rugby. In a mid-afternoon match between the Okkodo High School Lady Bulldogs and Southern High Lady Dolphins, a try was the difference in the game. The Lady Bulldogs staved off a determined Dolphins squad to preserve the 17-12 victory.

In the opening half, Southern’s Paige Surber recovered a loose ball from the opposite end of the field and used her speed and agility nearly the entire length for the game’s first try and a 5-0 lead. A converted kick immediately after put the Dolphins up 7-0. On the ensuing restart of play, Okkodo’s Teoni San Nicolas responded right away and found herself across the try line for the score. The Bulldogs’ Mikyla Ngriangas converted her kick to equalize the game at 7-7. Signal to end the half was blown with the score remaining the same.

Second-half action started off with Okkodo’s Yukari Buccat breaking through tackles and eventually making her way through the rest of the Southern defense for the score two minutes in. Despite the missed conversion, the Bulldogs upped their lead to 12-7. Several minutes later, Anisha Nedlic gave her team a 10-point lead after scoring a try for Okkodo.

With less than two minutes left on the clock, Southern desperately tried to make a move and was able to cut their deficit to 17-12 after Kiara Sanchez sped her way through the Bulldogs' defense. However, time on the clock expired before the Lady Dolphins were able to complete their comeback.
