Man dies in car crash near airport

  • PDF

YESTERDAY morning's downpour is being looked into as one of a number of factors that may have resulted in the death of a 51-year-old man in a car crash near the A.B. Won Pat International Airport.

Guam Police Department spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia said that around 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, Guam Highway Patrol responded to an auto ran-off roadway incident along Airport Road by the airport departure traffic light intersection.

According to Balajadia, the driver, Bernard Keith Lewis, was in his 2010 Toyota Corolla when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and drove off the roadway on Route 10A and struck a concrete pole.

Lewis was transported by ambulance to the Guam Memorial Hospital for further treatment. A nursing supervisor at GMH said Lewis died at around 9:02 a.m.

Aside from the weather, Guam Highway Patrol is looking into whether speed and/or alcohol were also factors in the crash. An autopsy is expected today to determine the exact cause of death.

Another media source reports that GIAA Police reported that at the time of the accident the roads were dry. MV reports the roads were wet. Fotos in both media taken shortly after the accident show our GPD guys hiding under umbrellas ?...
