CALVO’S SelectCare was recently approved to offer health insurance coverage to federal government employees and retirees.

In a statement released to the media, SelectCare said the company has been approved by the federal Office of Personnel Management through their insurance underwriter Tokio Marine Pacific Insurance. SelectCare will now be given the opportunity to provide health insurance benefits for federal employees in Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and Palau, effective January 2013.

SelectCare also noted they are the first local insurance carrier to receive this approval in over 20 years.

Frank J. Campillo, SelectCare health plan administrator, expressed his thoughts on the approval: “We are excited with the upcoming opportunity to provide our health plans and extend our services to the federal employees. We have entered this market at the urging of many federal employees and we are pleased to have been able to pass the rigorous and extensive application process, meet the strict requirements, and finally obtain approval from OPM.”

Calvo’s Insurance serves as managing agent and third party administrator for Tokio Marine Pacific Insurance Limited, which is a Guam-chartered insurance company and a subsidiary of Tokio Marine Holdings.

Campillo further said they are looking forward to their new relationship with the federal employees and retirees.

Federal employees and retirees in Guam, the NMI and Palau will be able to learn more about the SelectCare Health Plans during the upcoming “open season” later this year. During this period, sponsored information sessions for active employees and retirees will be held at all participating federal agencies and venues. Details on scheduled sessions will be announced in the near future and all employees and retirees are encouraged to attend.
