A GLOBAL Day of Prayer for Peace in the Scarborough Shoal will be held on Aug. 21 all over the United States, Canada, the CNMI, Guam, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Philippines, and other countries.

The worldwide event will be convened by the U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG), led by its national chairperson, Atty. Loida Nicolas Lewis; national president, Atty. Rodel Rodis; and spokesperson and legal counsel, Atty. Ted Laguatan. The group is targeting to convene activities in at least 300 cities in the U.S, according to a news release from the organization.

This past May 11, the USP4GG organized a worldwide protest to voice their resistance against China’s intrusion into Scarborough Shoal, a hotly contested area located some 124 nautical miles off Masinloc town in Zambales, Philippines.

On Aug. 21, the USP4GG Marianas Chapter and Laguna Association of Guam, headed by president Nancy Baldoz, in collaboration with the Filipino Community of Guam, led by its president Leah Beth Naholowaa, will be conducting a prayer forum at the Blue Magic Flower Shop in Tamuning after 7 p.m.

During the same day, Masses will be offered at St. Anthony Church in Tamuning at 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. and at the Santa Barbara Church, Dededo at 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

According to the USP4GG press release, the group also intends to offer prayers for victims of the recent flooding in the Philippines.

Dr. Celia B. Lamkin, USP4GG Marianas Chapter chair and USP4GG Region IX coordinator, has been coordinating events at various churches in the CNMI, Guam and Hawaii. Contact Dr. Lamkin at clamkinmd[at]yahoo.com for more information.
