New write-in candidate for Guam delegate

A NEW candidate has thrown his hat into the congressional delegate race.

Maria Pangelinan, executive director of the Guam Election Commission, confirms that Patrick Iriarte is running as a write-in candidate in the Democratic Party primary.

Iriarte submitted a letter to GEC stating his intentions to enter the election as a write-in candidate late last week. There are no requirements for a write-in candidate as there are for regular candidates. Iriarte can simply start campaigning to appeal to voters to write him in on their ballots.

Iriarte is running against incumbent Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo and newcomer Karlo Dizon.

Meanwhile, the Guam Election Commission is holding a public meeting tonight, Aug. 20, at the GEC conference room on the second floor of the GCIC building at 5:21 p.m.

The last day to register to vote is Wednesday, Aug. 22. The primary election will take place on Sept. 1 while the general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6.

All voters are reminded that a valid ID must be presented at the polls.
