NONPROFIT animal advocacy organization Fur-Ever Kinda Love recently announced its newest project, “Pallets for Pooches,” an initiative to help families who may not be able to afford the cost of purchasing or constructing shelter for their pets.

During the 68th Guam Liberation Day Parade this past July 21, the nonprofit showcased the project by adopting the theme “Home is Where the Dog Is.”

“We are very proud to be announcing our newest community service program called 'Pallets For Pooches' to help families who may not be able to afford shelter for their pets; and the dog house on the float during the Liberation Day Parade [was] our first project,” remarked Fur-Ever Kinda Love President Carol Laughlin in a news release.

Materials and labor used to construct the pet shelter showcased during the parade were donated by the Navy Base Guam Naval Special Warfare Unit 1.

She described the dog houses as Earth-friendly. Recycled pallets were used to construct the shelter.

In order to make the project happen, various businesses and groups on-island donated wood pallets while various volunteer military commands pledged to construct the shelters.

Families in need of shelter for their pets are encouraged to apply to Fur-Ever Kinda Love. Applications will be reviewed by the organization board members, and once an application is approved, the shelter will be delivered to the recipient by the organization, free of charge, according to Laughlin.

“Our first family will be selected during our event in recognition of National Homeless Animal Day to be held on Aug. 18 at the old Ben Franklin building on Marine Corps Drive.  This program is not only a way to help those who love their pets but also those who don’t have the financial means to provide appropriate shelter. It will also help beautify our island by keeping these pallets out of our landfills and other areas,” she further stated.
