A TAMUNING woman was charged by police for leaving her 3-year-old son unattended in a car at the parking lot of Kmart last Friday.
Acting Guam Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Liz Flickinger said at about 10:40 p.m., Tamuning Precinct officers received the report about the boy and his mother Redlyna Rediliphy, 35.
Rediliphy told officers she left her son in the rear seat of her vehicle and walked away from her car to talk to her boyfriend. Ten minutes later, her boyfriend checked the vehicle and noticed the boy missing.
Unable to locate her son inside Kmart, Rediliphy went to the Tamuning Precinct to report the incident while her boyfriend remained at Kmart and continued looking for the boy.
The boy was eventually found in the toy section an hour later.
An investigation later revealed Rediliphy did not have a required child seat for transporting her toddler, nor did she have a Guam driver’s license to operate her vehicle.
She was arrested for child abuse and was booked and released. Child Protective Services was also apprised of the case and representatives later advised police that the minor be released back to his mother’s custody.
