Teen escapes from DYA

A search has been launched to locate a Department of Youth Affairs male client who escaped from the agency’s correctional facility in Mangilao yesterday afternoon.

The teenager, 16, was reported missing at around 1:36 p.m.

DYA Director Adonis Mendiola said the client was remanded to DYA for violating his probation court order. He was initially charged with theft of a motor vehicle; theft by receiving established by complicity; reckless driving; driving without a drivers’ license; beyond control; and possession of a controlled substance.

He is described to be of Chamorro descent, has black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. He stands at about 5-foot-6 and weighs 110 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and black shorts.

As of press time, youth correction officers were still in the general area of Mangilao near DYA searching for the escapee. Assisting them were the Guam Police Department, Superior Court Marshals and Department of Corrections officers.

This is the sixth escape from DYA for the year.
