Guam Fire Department gets three more ambulances

THE number of ambulances for the Guam Fire Department is back at 10. The last time there was this number of ambulances was back in 2004.

Three new ambulances arrived yesterday afternoon. The emergency vehicles will be operational in just a matter of days.

The ambulances are currently in the process of acquiring decals and are being inspected and fitted with equipment. The ambulances come with a five-year maintenance contract.

Also brought to the island is an engine for an ambulance that will soon bring the number up to 11 ambulances.

The vehicles will not all be out on the road. GFD officials are going to rotate the fleet for maintenance.

“These new ambulances will help with the maintenance of other older emergency vehicles,” Gov. Eddie Calvo said. “It is important we have a healthy fleet of ambulances so we can rotate them for maintenance. For a long time, we have faced the uncertainty of unmaintained ambulances. Now we have an opportunity to keep these ambulances up and running with regular care so we can better serve the island.”
