THE final list of the candidates for the village mayors and vice mayors is out.

Almost all of the incumbent mayors will be running for a second term, with the exception of Mayor Jessie Palican of Barrigada.

Seventy-one candidacy packets for the positions of mayor and vice mayor were issued by the Guam Election Commission. By yesterday’s deadline, 56 officially filed for candidacy.

Those running unopposed include Robert Hoffman for mayor of Sinajaña; David Quintanillla for mayor of Chalan Pågo/Ordot; John Aguon Cruz for mayor of Hagåtña; and Dale Alvarez for mayor of Santa Rita.

Villages that have three candidates are Mangilao, Mongmong/Toto/Maite, Yoña, Piti, and Umatac.

Of the six candidacy packets that were picked up for mayor of Asan/Maina, four filed officially – making it the village with the most candidates vying for its mayor.

The remaining villages of Agaña Heights, Agat, Barrigada, Dededo, Inarajan, Merizo, Tamuning-Tumon-Harmon, and Yigo are duels between two opponents.

CNMI residents

Meanwhile, CNMI residents who are temporarily living on Guam will get the chance to register with the Commonwealth Election Commission this week starting Thursday, July 5 through Saturday, July 7.

On Thursday and Friday, registration will take place at the CNMI Liaison Office in Harmon. The Saturday registration will take place at Guam Premier Outlets.

The CEC is anticipating a lot of registrations this year due to the large class that recently graduated, CEC executive director Robert A. Guerrero stated.

Voters who register with the CEC will not be eligible to vote in Guam’s elections. Voters can only register with one election commission.
