New public auditor candidate withdraws

AFTER filing her candidate application packet at the Guam Election Commission, University of Guam comptroller and instructor Zeny Asuncion-Nace has announced she is withdrawing her candidacy for public auditor.

“After careful consideration, I am withdrawing my application for the Office of Public Accountability,” Nace said in a statement released to the Variety.

With Asuncion-Nace out of the race, Doris Flores Brooks, who currently holds the position of Guam Public Auditor, will be running uncontested.

Asuncion-Nace, a former chief auditor of the Office of Public Accountability, said she has weighed her options and has decided to continue with her plans to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Guam.

“I humbly thank all of my supporters for their confidence and the well-wishing I have received in the last few days. The support I have received had been surprisingly overwhelming. My best of luck to Ms. Doris Brooks,” Asuncion-Nace said.

The PDN ran a story yesterday that she was running against Brooks but Variety had this story that she pulled out. I'm assuming PDN did not check with her if she was still running or not after she filed her application?

Good move. You couldn't come close in a contest with Doris
