THE Guam delegation of the Association of Pacific Island Legislatures (APIL) has passed Resolution No. 31-GA-10 during the 31st General Assembly Conference on Saipan last week.
The resolution requests that the Department of Homeland Security grant parole status for the admission of Russian and Chinese tourists to Guam and the CNMI.
“Tourism experts who presented at the APIL conference and the Marianas Visitors Bureau membership meeting made it clear that tourism remains one of the fastest growing industries. Frankly, we must move quickly to secure the China market as soon as practical,” Sen. Tina Muña-Barnes said.
The program courts the Russian and Chinese tourist markets to enhance Guam and the CNMI’s economic statuses.
APIL is comprised of policy makers throughout the Pacific who gather to consider areas of mutual interest in which regional cooperation and exchange would help individual governments achieve their goals.
Currently, its members include American Samoa, CNMI, Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap, Guam, Republic of the Marshal Islands, Republic of Belau, Hawaii, Republic of Kiribati, and the Republic of Nauru.
