THE grand coronation event for Miss Earth Guam 2012 will take place tonight at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort at 7 p.m. Not only will Miss Earth Guam 2012 be crowned, but also Miss Earth Guam 2013.
The runners up, Miss Air, Miss Water and Miss Fire, will also be announced, as well as the winner of Miss Texter’s Choice.
Additionally, one candidate will be selected as Miss Resort World and will represent Guam in the Miss Resort World Manila pageant in November.
Gracing this year’s coronation is Miss Earth 2011, Ms. Olga Mercedes Alava Vargas from Ecuador.
Other highlights of this year’s coronation are a double-take at the contestants’ native costume and performances from the band Primo from the Philippines.
“Being Miss Earth means to carry a message, and that message is a power you hold in your hands,” Ms. Vargas told candidates at a press conference held yesterday at Häagen-Dazs in Tumon. The message is to protect and preserve the environment.
Miss Earth 2011 also encouraged contestants to enjoy their experience in the pageant. “Because if you don’t enjoy it and you don’t win, then you don’t have anything. At least if you didn’t win, you enjoyed the experience,” Vargas said.
Candidates for this year’s pageant are: Jerilyn Pangelinan, Dolores Palomo, Tabitha Owens, Levanna Eugenio, Alexandra Benavente, Farren Delos Santos, Briann Marie Duenas, Sarah Filush, Tierra Mendiola, Kaesy Mafnas, Lovanelijah Santos, Mamis Blas, Justine Crisostomo, Kreshona Pinaula, Jocelyn Minor, La’Kiesha Pereda, Katrina Martinez, and Stephanie Bonfield.
