TWO Korean tourists were indicted in federal court yesterday after they were caught allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 400 grams of methamphetamine into Guam earlier this month.

Sung O. Kwon and Jae Chul Shin face importation charges in the District Court of Guam. The two Korean nationals arrived from a Manila flight on June 7 when a Guam Customs and Quarantine canine alerted officials to a golf bag.

An investigation uncovered 426 gross grams of meth in a concealed bottom of the bag. According to court documents, the two suspects lived and worked in the Philippines and told authorities they were directed by a “Mr. Kim” to come to Guam and play golf.

Kwon and Shin remain in federal detention.

An initial appearance on an indictment and arraignment is set for Friday at 11 a.m. before Magistrate Judge Joaquin Manibusan Jr.
