FOLLOWING the announcement of the accreditation of D.L. Perez Elementary School, Okkodo High School and George Washington High School, another school on Guam has received accreditation notification from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

According to Guam Department of Education interim Superintendent Taling Taitano, Pedro C. Lujan Elementary School is now the fourth school to join the ranks of WASC-certified learning institutions on the island. The school received initial accreditation for three years, up to June 2015.

“This is a validation of the hard work and dedication put in by the school community to building effective teaching and learning,” Taitano said.

P.C. Lujan Elementary School Principal Germaine Iglesias was informed by WASC through a letter on June 16.

David E. Brown, Ph.D, executive director of WASC’s Accrediting Commission for Schools, wrote: “Welcome to the WASC family. We believe that WASC can support you in ‘adding value’ to the education of the students whom you serve.”

As part of the process, the school is required to complete a self-study assessment and submit a self-study report before the end of the three-year accreditation period. Another visit by WASC will occur in 2015.
