THE Department of Revenue and Taxation had to shut down operations yesterday because of its broken air-conditioning unit.

DRT Deputy Director Marie Benito admits the situation is an ongoing problem.

“When it’s bearable we don’t shut down, but it was just too much. We couldn’t turn on the AC at all. It’s down completely,” she said.

A check was made of the unit and was found to be leaking freon. As a result, the whole DRT was closed down at 11 a.m. The landlord for the building, JoeTen, is having a contractor fix the unit.

Benito said the last customer left the building at around 12:30 p.m.

“We were only accommodating those who were in the building at the time we had to shut down,” Benito said.

Meanwhile, DRT Director John Camacho in a statement apologized for the inconvenience and said he’s hopeful they’ll be back in operation today pending further information on repairs to the air-conditioning unit.
