THE TakeCare Foundation has presented the Guam Humanities Council with a grant of $4,500. The grant money will be used to purchase books and supplies for GHC’s Motheread program, which is Guam’s longest running family literacy program.

“This is a wonderful gift to celebrate our 10th year,” said Kimberlee Khileng, executive director of the Guam Humanities Council.

“We believe in the ability of the program and how they help the community,” stated Christine Quinata, of TakeCare Insurance.

Through Motheread, literacy skills and child development are cultivated through a family atmosphere. Parents and children attend workshops together.

Motheread has received a grant from the TakeCare Foundation in previous cycles of the grant. The foundation awards nonprofit organizations with projects or causes that address education, health, wellness, and the welfare of the community.

The foundation is comprised of employees of TakeCare Insurance who volunteer to assist in the contributions and selection process. Organizations that have been recipients of the grant include Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Salvation Army, Guam Diabetes Association, Ayuda Foundation, Oasis Empowerment Center, Catholic Social Services, and Sanctuary.

The foundation encourages nonprofit organizations to apply for the grant. The grant will award up to $5,000. The application packet can be found on the TakeCare website.
