THE village of Agat is hosting its 6th Annual Mango Festival this weekend.

According to Agat Mayor Carol Tayama, residents can expect a wide array of activities and a chance to see and try out various mango recipes.

On Saturday, the village will host the 5K/2K run/walk and then at 8 a.m., the vendors will open for business.

“Then, we will have demonstrations on mango donuts and the mango smoothie. We’ll have displays of the different types of mangoes. We’ll also have the judging of mangoes in categories such as most beautiful, largest, and bizarre,” Tayama said.

In the evening, the Little Miss Mango coronation ceremony will be held to crown one of nine young girls vying for the title.

On Sunday, a parade will take place at 10 a.m. and more entertainment and food displays will be presented.

Tayama also said she is working on a “mango home tour” with one of the tour agencies this weekend. “We will bring tourists to a home where they can pick and try mangoes off a tree,” she said.

Meanwhile, up in central Guam, the village of Tamuning is celebrating the Saint Anthony of Padua Fiesta this weekend.

Tamuning Vice Mayor Louise Rivera said everything kicks off on Saturday with a novena at 4 p.m. followed by a Mass and then the procession in honor of the village’s patron saint. Dinner or Taotao Tinanu will be held at around 6:30 p.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic School cafeteria.

On Sunday, the village is hosting their fiesta tour alongside the Guam Visitors Bureau at the Tamuning Park which is located right next to the intersection of Route 1 and 14. The fiesta tour is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rivera said there will be entertainment, cultural displays and food at the event.
