ROLAND Anthony Nauta, 39, was sentenced yesterday in the District Court of Guam to 13 years and one month in prison with credit for time served after having been busted for smuggling drugs via mail.

Nauta and co-defendant Daniel James Acfalle were arrested in Feb. 23 last year after receiving an intercepted package that was expected to contain more than 300 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride from California.

Prior to receiving the package, drug enforcement authorities replaced the drugs with fake meth and placed a tracking device on the parcel. When authorities busted the defendants, agents discovered a .25 semi-automatic pistol, which Nauta admitted was his.

In a signed plea agreement, Nauta pled guilty to the offenses of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and using, carrying or possessing a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

According to the Office of U.S. Attorney Alicia Limtiaco, Nauta will serve 157 months imprisonment with credit for time served and five years supervised released. Nauta remained in prison since his arrest.

Meanwhile, Acfalle remains behind bars as his sentencing was continued to Monday, June 18 at 9:30 a.m.
