Guam student gets Chaminade prize

(CU) – Chaminade University has awarded the 2012 President Sue Wesselkamper Prize endowed by Henry and Charlotte Clark to Nathaniel Enriquez from Hagåtña, a senior majoring in forensics/ biochemistry.

The announcement was made at the university's Na Liko Na'auao: A Showcase of Student Research, Scholarship and Creative Work held this April.

As a Chaminade student, Enriquez conducted research at New York University's Materials Research Science and Engineering Program and at Yale University as part of the Leadership Alliance Program.

He currently conducts research at Chaminade under Dr. Joel Kawakami. In addition, Enriquez has presented scholarly work at NYU, the annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students, Yale University, Leadership Alliance National Symposium, and the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans. He has served in leadership and various honor societies, as well as with campus ministry.

Enriquez has also garnered a number of achievement awards such as the American Chemical Society's Outstanding Student in Organic Chemistry Award and its Outstanding Student in Biochemistry Award.

A graduate of Father Duenas Memorial High School, Enriquez is determined to enter the MD/PhD programs at such schools as University of California San Francisco, New York University or Stanford University.
