A MIDDLE school teacher is behind bars for allegedly sending text messages to a man using her student’s mobile phone.
Therese Bamba Flores, 38, of Mangilao, is charged with child abuse, harassment, and official misconduct.
Flores, a teacher at Agueda Johnston Middle School in Ordot, is accused of using a student’s cell phone on several occasions to send harassing text messages.
Flores, who has been with the Guam Department of Education for more than 10 years, was booked and confined.
GDOE acting Deputy Superintendent Robert Malay said the incident was actually reported about two weeks ago on May 10. He said the GDOE central office was notified at the end of the school day. The teacher was then ordered to report to the central office on May 11.
“Flores was removed from the classroom instantly and she has been assigned to the central office,” he said.
He also stressed that the alleged child abuse charge against Flores was not physical.
Malay added GDOE is conducting its own internal investigation and a report is now pending review from GDOE interim Superintendent Taling Taitano for further action.
