POWER outages affected central Guam yesterday morning.

Guam Power Authority spokesman Art Perez said the outage, originating from the Hagåtña Substation, was reported at around 9:35 a.m.

Line crews were immediately dispatched to make repairs and restore power, Perez said. All circuits were restored within two hours.

“The cause was a short within the substation or a flash-over. That led to an outage in the substation that affected all the circuits,” Perez said. “What we were able to do is re-route power from other substations while repairs were being made.”

The outage affected parts of Hagåtña, including areas near the Retirement Fund building towards the Route 8 intersection and the Reflection Center building, O’Brien Drive to Pizza Hut, the Nieves Flores Hagåtña Library to Bank of Guam, the Gabriel building to Sinajaña Mobil, Mongmong to Kanada Road, Maite and the Calvo compound.

Also affected were areas near the Hagåtña Swamp along Route 4 in Afame, Ordot Chalan Pågo, Maimai Road and towards the intersection of Route 10 and 15 in Mangilao.

Customers still experiencing power quality problems are advised to call GPA trouble dispatchers at 475-1472/3/4.
