THE Navy sailor who died last Saturday at Haputo Beach has been identified as Ryan Bennett, 20, of Marysville, Penn.

He was reportedly snorkeling in the secluded cove, which is located on federal property at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station in Finegayan, Dededo. Access to the cove is only available to the military and individuals who have special authorization.

The cause of his death is currently under investigation by Navy authorities. ABC 27 WHTM television station in Pennsylvania reported that his parents, Marie and Mark Bennett, were informed that there were no signs of trauma.

Ryan Bennett is a graduate of Susquenita High School in 2011 where he was active in various sports activities including football, track and wrestling. He is said to have a passion for scuba diving and joined the Navy to fulfill his dream.

His family said he went to Florida for training and arrived on Guam last month.

Joint Region Marianas, in a statement, said Bennett was assigned to the USS Frank Cable (AS 40) and was a Navy Diver 3rd Class. An autopsy is now being done to determine the cause of Bennett’s death.
