AFTER the Guam Education Board approved and sent a copy of its revised contract to incoming Guam Department of Education Superintendent Jon Fernandez, board chairman Francis Santos said he is now engaged in the process of finalizing the details of the revised contract with the new superintendent.
According to Santos, these details include the proposed annual salary of $150,000 and the relocation expenses related to Fernandez’s move to Guam.
Santos said they do not have a firm date for the superintendent’s first day at this time. Initially, GEB wanted to have Fernandez on board by June 1 this year.
During a special meeting held May 16, GEB approved to increase Fernandez’s annual salary from $125,000 to $150,000 but without the additional allowances proposed in an earlier draft of the superintendent’s contract.
In addition, the board also approved to remove a section entitling the superintendent to receive one year salary, allowance, and compensation upon termination. Also scrapped was the proposal to establish a retirement plan for the superintendent.
