Tropical disturbance causing rainy weather

THERE’S going to be more rain and wind today through tomorrow morning as a tropical disturbance makes it way south of the Mariana Islands.

National Weather Service Chief Meteorologist Chip Guard said the disturbance was located 11 degrees north, 147 degrees east or about 300 miles southeast Guam and is moving at around 10 miles per hour.

“We’re looking at it to go south of the Marianas and that would be sometime tonight. But things could change so we need to keep an eye on the disturbance,” he said. “The best thing people can do is stay tuned to the radio and I’m sure they’ll be getting updates. All we can do right now is just watch it and see if it goes through any significant changes.”

Guard said the Joint Typhoon Warning Center still doesn’t have a formation alert on it, but he said that can also change.

“They might issue a formation alert but then again they might not, but we’re in contact with them,” Guard said.

Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense issued a statement about the disturbance indicating conditions favor steady development over the next several days, as there is a high chance this system will bring wind gusts as high as 35 miles per hour.

NWS reports that today and tomorrow night, residents can expect the weather to be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with southeast winds at 15 to 20 miles per hour. The temperature during the day will be around 86 degrees before dropping down to 74 degrees at night.
