THE Guam Visitors Bureau is making a few changes to its Guam Island Fiesta Tour program.
A presentation was made by GVB officials about the amendment during the Mayors’ Council of Guam special meeting yesterday.
Angel Sablan, MCOG executive director, said the fiesta will still be held in a home environment; but if an unexpected incident occurs, the new rule allows the fiesta to be moved to the village community center.
“If there is no home environment because there is no space or if there is nothing available, it will be the mayor’s responsibility to look for a common area like a baseball field, a park or a community center and host it there,” Sablan said.
Other items taken up during the special meeting included discussions of novels written by local authors Stephen Tenorio and Steven LeFever.
Tenorio wrote “An Ocean in a Cup” which focuses on the life of Tomas who lived on Guam circa 1890 before the arrival of the Americans, and known by those who know him as gifted but tormented.
LeFever wrote “Beautiful Escapade,” a story about 26-year-old Rick Duenas, a young Chamorro man living in the U.S. mainland who comes of age dealing with issues he faces with his friends, a mentor, and even an unlikely icon – the moon.
MCOG Vice President Robert Hofmann commended Tenorio and LeFever on their accomplishments.
Hofmann said the two men showcase Guam literature and culture.
The mayors, who are now in charge of libraries in their respective villages, have purchased Tenorio and LeFever’s books to have them available at the village libraries in Dededo, Barrigada and Merizo.
