AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into an altercation among several clients that occurred last Sunday at the Department of Youth Affairs compound in Mangilao.
According to Grace Taitano, DYA youth development administrator, the incident occurred at around 4:15 p.m. at the DYA Youth Correctional Facility’s F-Unit right after clients ended their outdoor recreation.
Taitano said one of the clients provoked another client during a routine dorm cleanup.
“The client allegedly splashed a cup of water into a cell as the other client was conducting dorm cleanup. A confrontation ensued and others joined in,” she said.
Youth correctional staff contained the situation immediately. However, Taitano said one client and two staffers were treated at Guam Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the entire Youth Correctional Facility is on lockdown status pending an internal investigation.
The case is also under investigation by GPD’s Juvenile Investigation Section. Taitano confirmed one client was being interviewed by investigators.
