BULLYING prevention training for more than 200 elementary school teachers and staff has begun at the Westin Resort Guam as part of a federally recognized program brought in by the Judiciary of Guam and the Guam Department of Education.
The training event, which is federally funded by U.S. Department of Education Title V-A Consolidated Grant, involves a comprehensive two-day Olweus Bullying Prevention Program training workshop for all public elementary schools in two groups. The training event will run up to Friday.
Nine certified Olweus trainers will be implementing the world's most widely recognized, evidence-based program that targets bullying among youth, the Judiciary stated in a press release.
Chief Justice F. Philip Carbullido commented on the significance of the Judiciary’s preventative initiatives, saying, “The Judiciary can no longer sit idle and expect others to contain the detrimental effects bullying has on our entire society. We continue to embrace our role as a community partner and take preventative measures to do our part – to stop, intervene and prevent bullying and youth violence on our island – for our children.”
He added, “Preventing our youth from entering our court system is not only deserving of our attention, but a matter of responsible court administration – most especially in light of the ‘new normal’ austere budgetary times.”
