GUAM Memorial Hospital is joining its healthcare counterparts in the mainland to celebrate the hard work and dedication of its staff and volunteers during National Hospital Week.
National Hospital Week is an annual celebration across the nation dating back 100 years. It was established to improve recruitment, staff retention, create a more satisfactory workplace, and increase awareness throughout the community.
GMH kicked off the week-long celebration yesterday with a 7 a.m. wave at the ITC intersection and an opening ceremony at the GMH campus at 11 a.m. Other activities include a Hospital Recognition and Appreciation Award ceremony and a Nursing Award ceremony.
“National Hospital Week is first and foremost a celebration of our people,” Hospital Week Chairperson Jennifer Sevilla said.
This year’s theme is “Making Miracles Happen,” and GMH is joining nearly 6,000 U.S. hospitals and more than 5 million staff members.
“Accidents happen. Illnesses happen. Births happen,” GMHA interim Administrator Rey Vega said. “As they happen, the employees, physicians and volunteers of GMHA have always been there to meet the needs of our island community.”
Acting Nursing Administrator Christine Tuquero added: “We are extremely proud of our staff. We often take for granted the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our community.
