GOV. Eddie Calvo recently authorized the release of funds to make the dream of owning a home come true for 20 families.
The project, a $1.325 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is undergoing a bid process, according to the governor's office.
The 20 homes will be located throughout Guam, with 10 in the Sagan Linahyan Subdivision in Dededo, five former staff housing units in Merizo, and five units in Talofofo.
“Every Guamanian deserves the chance to raise a strong family in a home they can be proud of,” Gov. Calvo said. “Part of the fight against poverty, and it is an uphill battle on Guam, is giving struggling families a place to build their dreams. I believe that if we can build thriving neighborhoods and give families a safe place to grow, then we can alleviate many of the social issues plaguing the island today.”
The renovation project is a collaborative partnership between the Guam Housing Corporation and the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority. Once the project is completed, the 20 units will be placed in service as affordable housing for eligible and qualified individuals, families and elderly citizens.
“The administration has made it a point to ensure these projects occur islandwide. I want our families to have an opportunity to raise their children in safe, affordable housing whether they choose to live in the north or the south.”
Those interested in these projects, or other affordable housing opportunities, can contact GHURA at 477-9851 or the Guam Housing Corporation at 649-4144.
