A 38-year-old woman is behind bars for allegedly making her 18-year-old son call the Guam Police Department to report she was going to be killed by her common-law husband.
The alleged phone call was made last Wednesday and resulted in the lockdown of PC Lujan Elementary School in Barrigada and MU Lujan Elementary School in Yona.
The son, who is a student attending GW High School, was asked by the officer taking the call for more information and eventually talked to the woman, identified later as Melanie Dahilig Wenceslao, of Chalan Pago.
GPD spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia said Wenceslao informed the officer she believed her common-law husband was going to kill her and even asked for an escort to come with her to get her personal items. The officer was told she was possibly enroute to MU Lujan but was not sure since she hung up the phone. Several calls were made back to Wenceslao but were not answered for awhile.
“After more calls were made to the phone, the female answered. Details of her last name and location were requested but she refused to cooperate. After the female was told more than once about the school on alleged lockdown status because of her call, she then reluctantly identified herself,” Balajadia said.
The following day, she met with officers at the Hagåtña Precinct and admitted that at no time did her common-law husband threaten to kill her or say he was going to kill her and that she “only thought in my head” that he was going to kill her. She also stated that she “did tell” the officer that her common-law husband was going to kill her but that she “did not mean it.”
Wenceslao said she was the person who initiated the call to police asking for help.
She admitted she was aware of the lockdown at the two schools be cause of her actions.
She also knew the police were calling her back and admitted to purposely ignoring the calls.
Wenceslao was charged with making a false report and false alarm. She was booked and confined.
