THE senior citizens centers’ contract with the Mayors’ Council of Guam may be extended up to the end of the fiscal year.
The announcement was made during MCOG’s regular meeting Wednesday at the District Court of Guam.
Mayors' Council Executive Director Angel Sablan said the Department of Public Health and Social Services is interested in extending the contract.
“They are now working on the funding. The minimum is still $60,000 a month for the 12 centers, but they are adding more funding on assessments done at the centers,” he said.
Sablan said an inspection was conducted recently by fire inspectors on the fire extinguishers at most of the centers, which were found to be either inoperable or expired.
“They’re going to give us $20,000 more to deal with that. We’re also asking them for additional money for supplies so the mayors won’t have to lose their own office money for supplies. All they gave them last time was $5,000 which amounts to $500 for each of the 12 centers,” Sablan said, adding they’ve already informed Art San Agustin, head of the senior citizens division, that they need funding for the supplies.
Sablan also informed the council that they’ve picked up all the site managers and have two roving site managers as well as the program coordinator. Additionally, they are looking into picking up another program coordinator and hiring two janitors from SPIMA.
