Schools locked down

STUDENTS at M.U. Lujan Elementary School in Yoña and P.C. Lujan Elementary School in Barrigada were on lockdown for a few hours yesterday.

GPD spokesman A.J. Balajadia said a female minor contacted the Hagåtña Precinct just after lunch time and told an officer that her mother’s boyfriend was going to kill her.

The minor who called GPD did not indicate where her exact location was. The officer who took the call called both elementary schools and asked if the minor attended either school. As a precaution, the administrators of both campuses decided to shut down until police arrived.

Balajadia stressed that at no time was there any possible threat to either campus.

Meanwhile, Guam Department of Education acting interim superintendent Robert Malay called for a news conference late yesterday afternoon to discuss the lockdown of the schools.

Malay said the process is part of an emergency response plan all public schools have that addresses any type of emergency.

“They are very aware of what to do in any type of emergency. In fact, they practice these types of emergencies throughout the year,” he said.
