OPERATION Dragon was out in full force over the weekend and a few bars and clubs were reportedly shut down, including The Venue in Hagåtña as well as Romeo and Juliet in Tumon.
Witnesses told Variety that last Friday night, police officers and officials from the Alcohol Beverage Control division of the Department of Revenue Taxation were at the establishments and discovered that alcoholic drinks were allegedly being served to people under 21 years old.
Both clubs were shut down for up to 24 hours.
It turns out the division’s inspectors and police officers were out at a majority of businesses – including clubs, retail and convenience stores – that sell alcohol to make sure the employees were checking customers' IDs and that the customers were actually 21.
It should be noted this is the second time Romeo and Juliet was found to be in violation of the underage drinking law. The establishment was cited back in January. This time around, the club was additionally cited for allegedly staying open after hours.
So far, GPD hasn’t yet issued a full account of how many places were visited or if any other citations or fines were issued. The minimum fine is about $1,500. If there is a continued violation, the owner of the establishment will then be arrested.
Operation Dragon started during the holiday season to crack down on establishments suspected of selling alcohol to underage individuals or those staying open after hours.
The program was also active with DUI check points which resulted in several arrests.
