THE Guam Humanities Council is reminding the community that proposals are being accepted for its 2012 Community Grant Cycle, with an upcoming free grant-writing workshop being offered next Saturday, March 3.
Nonprofit organizations and institutions for humanities programs can take advantage of this opportunity of financial support from GHC. They must be operating on Guam to eligibly apply for a grant, but need not be incorporated or tax-exempt.
“The humanities include, but are not limited to, the study of history; modern and classical language; literature; law; philosophy; comparative religion; ethics; and the history, criticism and theory of the arts. Anthropology, archeology and political science are also considered part of the humanities,” GHC explains. “The humanities also include interdisciplinary areas such as women and gender studies, American studies, ethnic studies, and the study of folklore and folk life. Humanities projects may also apply humanities perspectives to current political, social or economic concerns and issues.”
Three grant formats are being offered: mini grants, regular grants, and media projects.
Funded projects take many different forms. According to GHC, eligible formats for programs may include, but are not limited to: public forums – lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, film or book discussion series, and panel discussions; the development and fabrication of interpretive exhibits, permanent and traveling fairs, festivals and tours; media productions – newspaper articles, radio and television programming, film and videotape.
Application packets and instructions are available at the Guam Humanities Council office at Suite 106, Reflection Center, 222 Chalan Santo Papa, Hagåtña. They can also be obtained on the GHC website as a PDF.
Preliminary proposals for regular and media grants are due Saturday, April 7. Final proposals for regular, media and mini grants are due Saturday, May 12.
A free grant-writing workshop will be offered on Saturday, March 3 at the GHC office. The workshop is a requirement for first-time applicants. Registration for the workshop ends March 1.
Grant awards will be announced in June.
