Many may not vote

WE ARE now fully into another election season, and as usual the future of the island is at stake. One of the things that is really an issue is that many eligible voters stay away from the polls. If this happens once again we will end up with the same leaders we have now. There is a cry now for the youth to be encouraged to go out and get registered to vote in this election. It may seem that they are drifting away from the issues at hand.

I tend to think that many people on Guam are fully aware of the problems and are getting quite sick and tired of the lies they hear from supposedly responsible leaders on this island. If you choose not to go out and express your opinions you may never be heard by some of the people who are running, whether they be new or incumbents.

It is not really enough to go out and get drafted and voted into office and then betray the people who helped put you there, the people of Guam and the unselfish people you called upon to help you in your time of need. I think we now have many leaders who don't know the first thing to do when they are put into office, and quite often the celebration is empty because you can’t provide for the needs of all who helped you, and often they will turn their backs on you because you did it first.

Votes and loyalty are all that most of us have got. We should be looked on as more important than that. What's going to happen to this island when the Chamorro become a small minority on their own island and the Micronesian off-spring grow up? Many of the local kids continue to have little to look forward to.
