WE NEED to get more people in our community to be more environmentally friendly. If everyone would practice recycling, reusing and reducing, we can reduce the waste buildup on Guam. Nowadays we have Pay-Less starting their "Zero Bags" campaign. This is one big and influential step in persuading the people of Guam to be more environmentally friendly.
Recycling is easy. Just put in a little more effort when disposing of your trash. If you have an empty plastic bottle, don't throw it away, put it in a recycling bin. Have aluminum? Same process. Having a big party or fiesta? Set up recycling bins for plastics, aluminum and trash, not just the usual bag tied to the canopy leg. You see, it’s the little bit of extra effort – going the extra mile, as others would say – that will help change our future for the better.
Reusing is even easier than recycling. Even Pay-Less is encouraging the use of their forever bags. Almost everyone has a forever bag in one way or another. A forever bag, often a bag made of canvas, can be as simple as an old schoolbag or any bag that is durable enough to hold your items from the store. Take a step in being more environmentally friendly and use forever bags.
Reduce is something everyone can do in some way or another. Let us just say you're in a room by yourself with the light on, and you eventually go outside to get some fresh air. Turn off the light on the way out. You are not going to be inside to make use of the light, so why not? We can reduce the use of everyday items, we just have to be more practical about it. The simple things like opening the blinds of a window to let the natural light into the house can reduce the use of power in our homes.
