THE 9TH annual 2010 Celebrity Chef’s Cup fundraiser for the University of Guam’s Endowment Foundation will kick off on Oct. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Guam Hotel main ballroom.

The Mediterranean-themed competition will be based on a five-course meal including cold appetizer, hot appetizer, soup, entrée and dessert.

Proceeds will support the foundation’s capital improvement projects, classroom equipment and other scholarship programs.

“We wanted to generate funds for the university by partnering with the Micronesian Chefs Association that incorporated a fun and formal dining experience for the community to showcase the talents of the chef celebrities who serve Guam in the various five star hotels,” said Mark Mendiola, the executive director of the University of Guam Endowment Foundation

The event will be hosted by K57 talk show host announcer Ray Gibson and Joy James, according to Gordon T.

Mizusawa, secretary for the Micronesian Chefs Association.

Mizusawa said about 60 restaurant representatives will be plating dishes to serve an estimated 450 guests.

“We chose this venue because the staff at the Hyatt is very efficient,” Mizusawa said.

The food will be prepared off-site prior to the event.

Italy, France, Greece, Morocco and Spain are the five Mediterranean countries that will be represented at the event.

Competing for the trophy cup are two-time winner Chris Aguilar of Outrigger Hotel who will prepare Greek deserts; two-time winner Christophe Durliat of Hilton Resort who will serve Moroccan flavored soup; Rey Dasalla of Pacific Islands Club who will serve a cold Italian appetizer; last year’s winner Daniel Lenherr of Westin Resort who will devise a French-inspired hot appetizer; and Michael Moral of Churrasco who will provide a Spanish entree.

Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. leading to the first course presentation at 7 p.m.
